MAS 90 and MAS 200 - Creating General Ledger accounts

In MAS 90 and MAS 200 version 4.0, the General Ledger module was overhauled. In addition to allowing longer account numbers, the new module also follows more structured procedured for creating new account numbers.

Hierarchy

General Ledger Options

  • Auto Create when all Segments are Valid: If you enter an account number in data entry that does not exist, but all its segments do exist, then should the system create the account automatically? (Yes / No / Prompt) If no, then new accounts can only be created using Account Maintenance.
     
  • Add Main Accounts in General Ledger: If you enter an account number whose first segment does not exist in Main Account Maintenance, then should the system allow the user to create the main account on the fly? (Yes / No) If no, then new main accounts can only be created using Main Account Maintenance.
     
  • Add Sub Accounts in General Ledger: If you enter an account number whose additional segments do not all exist in Sub Account Maintenance, then should the system allow the user to create the sub accounts on the fly? (Yes / No) If no, then new sub accounts can only be created using Sub Account Maintenance.

Helpful hints

  • Generate Accounts (on the Utilities menu) can be used to create accounts automatically for all possible combinations of certain segment values.
     
  • If necessary, you can move a main account to a different section of the chart of accounts without renumbering it, by changing its account group in Main Account Maintenance.
